Programme and project management
  • Selected by the Group Executive team to manage the project office for the highly sensitive £20bn merger between two large insurance organisations, successfully planning and co-ordinating pre-announcement deliveries and providing the framework for achievement of merger.

  • Managed internal resources and 3rd party suppliers through the full programme life-cycle for a £12m and then a £30m integration of Data Centres, Distributed Computing, Telecoms and Facilities Management products and services delivering the required cost savings and future service model.

  • Engaged and project managed 3rd Party Suppliers to review potential outsourcing of a Facilities Management function with an annual budget of over £100m.

  • Designed an e-based application to solve regulatory requirements introduced by the Financial Services Authority, managing delivery and other regulatory requirements, and resulting in the organisation being recognised by the regulator as leading the field in that area at the time.
  • Managed part of recovery team to bring failing Oracle applications implementation back on track, resulting in ongoing management role of the team of programmers and analysts supporting those applications.
Process design and management
  • Managed global Corporate Governance framework (policies, committees and roles) through a global network of Corporate Directors/Governance Directors, ensuring framework remained current and effectively articulated on global intranet.  Provided group expert level consultancy and mentoring to UK and global businesses as well as disciplined configuration management and change control of the framework itself.

  • Development of FTSE100 organisation’s response to new Companies Act requirements which was acclaimed as “amongst the most comprehensive and thorough of which [external auditors] were aware”.

  • Provided ongoing assurance to Plc Board through oversight of regulatory compliance function for what was at the time the largest general insurer in the UK, and recognised as group expert in senior management regulatory regime of the Financial Services Authority.

  • Managed implementation and maintenance of governance frameworks and processes in Asia, Ireland and Canada on behalf of Executive Director, including analysis and senior management briefings based on analysis of relevant Board and Audit Committee Papers.

  • Change managed and provided operational support for UK user base of mainframe based DBS General Ledger and mid-range based Oracle applications.

Problem solving

  • Designed, recommended and implemented successful best practice model for managing governance across international operations resulting in executive management by exception.

  • Designed and managed implementation of web-based solution for a long standing problem of articulating a dry but critical governance framework to a global population.  Enabled group to demonstrate a robust framework to regulator and provided comprehensive reference site for global businesses.

Communication
  • Bridged communication gap between all levels of organisation through regular reporting up to Executive level whilst able to hold technical discussions with staff involved in IT, Telecoms, Facilities Management, HR, Finance and Regulations.
  • Adapted quickly to cultural differences across countries and ensured communication adjusted accordingly without losing the necessary drive or relevance of the message, enabling Group Executive requirements to be met by international businesses.
